All the sudden when warmed up there is an intermittant squeal from the FRONT of the engine. I soaped the belt but no change. I listened with a steel rod at the generator and water pump. Not there. They are both new. Best I can tell it is coming from the lower part of the engine under the timing gear cover?? Any ideas?

As soon as the battery recharges a little from the load of running the starter, the belt quits slipping. You're hearing the belt squeal as it slips on the crankshaft pulley as it tries to drive the generator or alternator under the load of recharging the battery. Tighten or replace the belt.

| | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 163 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 163 | Very possible.It is a new belt so it could have stretched. I tightened it up a little. Usually the soap trick works to find the cause but maybe not always. Hope this takes care of it.

If it is to narrow, it will ride on the bottom of the pulleys and slip. V-belts were made to run on the V part. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 163 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 163 | It was incorrect when I got the truck.I had to replace the harmonic balancer so all grooves and belt matched.
