Need a seat for my 58 3200 (LWB) and found a guy who wants $100 for it. Haven't seen it yet but was wondering if he was asking too much. Advice welcome but please be gentle.....I am new at this whole thing :confused:

grubster welcome to the bolt $100 bucks sounds a little steep have you thought about recovering?

I would assume that if someone is looking for a new seat, they either have no seat, or the frame is damaged beyond repair. Some of the Swap Meet sellers might have a good idea on the price.

Guys! Appreciate the advice. I also thought the price was a little steep. The seat I have is in pretty bad shape....needs recovering, and about 75% of the springs are shot.

The guy selling the seat also stated that it needed recovered.

I think I will bargain with him or go lloking somewhere else.

Go visit an upholstery supply shop; I'm willing to bet they have a kit to replace the springs, or at least most of the parts. While you're there, get a set of hogring pliers and a box of rings for installng seatcovers. They'll also have raw cotton padding of varying thickness so you can replicate stock lumps if you so choose. Seatcovers are everywhere (ChevyDuty, LMC, etc.) or you can pick your own fabric and make your own.

Lots of folks are tossing seats when they rod these old trucks - they can be had for free if you are patient. I have picked up two free seats in the last year, one from another bolter and one from someone cleaning out their garage who didn't know what it was from.

Welcome to the 'bolt grubster . Even though I am not near you , I go with Ken on this issue ,, Rodders throw out lots of good stuff , I just got a complete '47 seat assy for next to nothing ,,

you guys will probably think im nuts, but i paid $75 for an old seat at a local scrap yard (my truck had an old car bench seat in it!) it needs recovered but it's in decent shape. it was a matter of location for me. not a lot of old trucks/parts around here.

oneton - I don't think you are nuts - sometimes all that stands between you and progress is a few bucks. No use holding up years of hard work and thousands of $ worth of other parts. Time is worth a lot more than people give it credit for . . . $75 isn't a bad deal if all it needs is a cover. I paid a grand for seats for my burb - got tired of driving around and looking at high priced rusty junk with no springs - when the right set popped up that was complete and virtually unused, I snapped them up - whatever you are short on whether it is time or money - you usually have enough of the other to help you make progress. The real issue is that you don't pay good money for something that will not save you any time . . . buying a seat that is beat to crap and missing half the springs for $100 doesn't really get you much closer to where you want to be, but it has levered $100 out of your wallet thus limiting your ability to get the cherry seat you really want in the future.

Seats are a sore subject with me. The truck came with a newer truck bench seat. Much too big. So, I bought this nice looking bench seat attached to an AD frame for $100.- It didn't need recovering. But, after using it a while I realized it was a bench seat for a car and too small. Though the frame was good. I now owned two good frames and two bad seats.

So, I bought this seat on Ebay for way too much. Then it cost me an arm and a leg to ship it over to me. Not one of my smarter Ebay moves I have to admit. I forgot how much that deal cost me. (Voluntary memory loss). This seat was in rough shape but the springs were nice. So it just needed recovering. So, after several hundreds of dollars I now had two frames and one set of springs.

Then this local guy emailed me, he had a seat for $25.- with reasonable covering. I am using that now.

Like I said, a sore point for sure... :mad:

I guess I got lucky then, my seat is in perfect condition except for smelling like mouse pee.

Popcorn - I bought a set of seats for a suburban that were in like new condition. Fatboy is recovering them now.

Popcorn, will a 59 fit a 53? I go near Wabash in my trips! I looked at an Ebay seat two weeks ago, finally ended up going for $300! Next step is a junkyard

Hey Tony ~ I need the back rest for an AD if you've got one to spare .

I'm in Ca. too and will drive to get it .
