Thanks for recommendations.

1953 3104 pickup (all were "standard" bed in 1953)
Paint the front fenders separate from the cab/etc - fender welt is unpainted/black.
No fender welt with rear fenders.
People have speculated on this: most agree that the rear fenders were painted attached to the bed assembly (with bed boards not in place during the painting).
I paint the rear fenders off the bed and then put a piece of roofing felt between the rear fenders and the bed sides. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,298 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,298 | You will not have any fun trying to put the welting on with the fender on.

Just to hide some imperfections in the fit fender to bed. But for a restoration, I would have to take the time to "fit" that seam a bit better. The welt will hid what little gaps I have so when I get to paint then on it will go. After the bed and fender are painted.

In this case paint on paint for awhile. I would at least do what Tim does with the roofing felt. Roofing Felt comes in handy in making gaskets for various other parts of the truck. It should be put on the honorary Mainstay list somewhere. | | |
