on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 3 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 3 | I have swapped out a 261 to a 350 small block motor and trans truck is still on original frame but in order to do the swap had to unbolt the steering box from frame. The box will not fit back due to the 350 motor I need help on what I can do to try to use original steering or what I need to do Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,853 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,853 | Find a left exhaust manifold from a 55-57 passenger car 265. It's about the narrowest manifold out there, and I believe it will give you just enough room for the steering column. Another option is offsetting the engine/trans assembly a couple of inches toward the passenger side, but that's sort of a Mickey Mouse method of dealing with the problem.
Edit: what happened to the 261 you took out? PM me if it's available. Jerry

Weld a piece steel level with the top of the frame to accomplish this. I used a piece of angle iron and trimmed one leg to get my 1.5 inches out and used the other leg to bolt the lower outside box mounts to. There are a couple of pictures in the 3600 link in my sig.
