Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 98 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 98 | Finally, almost finished with the T5 tranny install and rearend swap. The tranny from an 88 GMC Sonoma has been rebuilt and installed. The shifter was changed to a Core short throw shifter (had to change the shifter to work with the bench seat). The '71 Nova rearend has been rebuilt and upgraded to posi and installed.
There's one last piece to the puzzle. Does anyone know if there's an aftermarket tranny cover for the T5 that's a direct bolt up for the 3100? If not, has anyone else done a T5 conversion and what did you do for a tranny cover?
As always, I appreciate the wisdom you guys provide!!

I am curious if one exists for the 3100 too. I'd like to know more about where the original interferes. I know a guy in TN who has a T5 in his. Maybe he can tell me what he did and I'll let you know. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 98 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 98 | Yes sir, that's correct. The shaft comes out of the tranny closer to the seat on the T5 than on the SM420. If I have to, I guess I could cut a hole for the new location and weld a plate to cover the old hole but I'm not sure if the plate height is correct. I thought with all of the conversions out there someone might have an aftermarket plate. I'll be interested to hear what your friend did. Thx Jay

He said he bought a swap meet tranny cover floor piece that he used and that way he still has the original for later if needed. He did seal up the hole where the original shifter was and cut a new hole for the T5 shifter. I don't think any other cuts or modifications are needed. At least he didn't allude to any. I hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 98 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 98 | That helps a lot. i'll modify mine. Thx for checking with him.
