is there any special part I should look for, the cover that covers the hole where the heater motor sticks out under the hood. on a 1953 3100 with the fresh air heater.

Here is the metal ring that hold a rubber ring-seal. The ring is screwed to the firwall on the engine side.

If you are looking for a cover rather than the ring, It would be easy enough to make one.

Yes, it would be easy to make that round cover, and/or Jim Carter sells one.

thanks Tim, that cost me $130. I noticed the link was for jim carter. so I went to look and see if I could find a cover at jim carters website, and ended up buying a new pinion gear for my steering box, he has them at half price. Either way, I need like a can or something to fit over the motor, I have an aftermarket motor, maybe it is too big or something. I don't really remember if I ever had the original motor for this heater or not. I have a whole box of heater parts, but I don't recall with any certainty where they all came from. I just figured I would ask.

Are you talking about a cover that covers the heater motor? If so, I assume that you replaced the original motor with one from an auto parts store.

There is no cover over the motor. Some 'Bolters installed the aftermarket heater motor inside the case of an original heater motor. Some aftermarket motors are small enough to do so.

A rubber gasket seals the gap between the motor and the firewall. A metal ring secures the gasket to the firewall.

Jim Carter sells the metal ring ... "Heater Cowl Round Firewall Ring 1947-1955 4 5/8 Appox" Part #MEH254

I don't know a source for the rubber gasket. You can cut one from approx 3/16 rubber sheet. Cut the center hole to fit snug and stretched around the motor. Trim outside to match the metal ring.

Now then - if I was totally off base with my answer, then Jim Carter also sells the block out plate for firewall that covers the hole for the heater motor.

AH, now I see how it works. I was looking for something to cover the entire thing. Chevs of the 40's has the gasket, (it comes in a set for the fresh air heater) I just really wanted to seal up the air gap around the motor. Not necessarily cover the motor. Thanks guys.

I don't mean to complicate things, but if originality is not essential and you want something to cover the motor and seal the cab up better, a guy used a stainless steel watering bowl for hampsters he got at a pet store. He drilled three holes and screwed it in place.
