The '50 216 is gray. I ordered mine from Chevy Duty. Don't know about those high-tech 235s, but I'm sure someone else will.

Thanks. Are the sheetmetal parts -- valve cover, etc. gray, too? I've got one that's painted blue.
The other is orange.

The 216 in my 52 and the 54 235 I bought were both blue. Original paint. Both engines were painted both colors, why, I don't know. Best match for the blue that I found is Plasti-Kote 201 Chevy blue.

My guess is gray ('52, 216) and gray ('54 235). Expect to get all sorts of answers. Nonetheless, Chevrolet colored drawings and technical manuals show or state gray as the truck engine colors for these years. That is, except for sedan delivery (panel wagon)in 1954, which used the Blue Flame Six 235 (which was, of course, painted blue).

Chevy Duty sells a blue (incorrect) for 1954 235 truck engine. Jim Carter seems to sell the correct color.

Here is one of many earlier discussions on this matter.
