I have a 1954-1961 GMC 270 motor in a 1949 chevy coe. I have put a carburetor kit in the Zenith carb. without any success...maybe some one can tell me who bebuilds zenith carb's, or what to replace it with? Thanks

Zenith still builds Zenith carbs, check if they have a suitable replacement. I just installed a new down draft Zenith on a GMC, running night and day better than the old one that had recently been "rebuilt".

Please let us know if you find new Zenith replacement updraft carburetors for a 270.

I think I have seen it somewhere, but I cannot find a link.

The nearest I see on Zenith's website is listed as suiting up to 250 CID, so might limit top end power on a 270. Hopefully someone with better knowledge can advise on any limits.

The carb to manifold flanges and studs might also be an issue to check

Nonetheless, they show a 228. What is the price?

I put in a call to the local distributor who will call Zenith and then get back to me. He said Zenith is sometimes a little slow, might not get an immediate answer.

Zenith says part numbers 14475 and 11280 are no longer available.
Number 14275 is available but cost $962.67 through Fisher Autoparts in Roanoke, VA
That part number should work with 228, 248, and 270 engines.

Searching online I had seen prices mentioned in the $600 range as well as one on ebay at $890obo.
Perhaps another dealer/distributor can get/offer better prices, or has older stock that was purchased at more favorable prices.

Again, this is all for downdraft Zenith model 228, not updraft

I've had a local shop rebuild several carbs for me over the years with excellent results. They rebuilt an updraft carb for Doughboy (235). The also do business through USPS. If you would like their contact info, let me know; or you can look them up.

I just had my Zenith rebuilt for a GMC 270 cu inch motor. I used National Carburetor
It was $175 with FL state tax. Turn around time was 12 days.
It came back looking like new. They even replaced the lower part of the carb.

the upper body is clean like new, the lower part is coated like a grey color. I think they replace the lower part since it was leaking fuel.

I've owned about 50 Chev & GMC COEs. I think the 54 350 is the only yr that the air inlet faces forward. I'd have to check part and service manuals to see. The Chev faces forward but uses a Carter only for 54 & E55. I've that NOS in OE box.
