I have a 1950 3100 with 216 it has a sediment on top of the fuel pump I want to clean it out. I unscrewed the knob knob on top to flip the wire bail out of the way but the glass bowl does not want to move is it just stuck or did I miss something?

Also if the bowl is removed does the tank fuel value need to be closed or does the fuel pump prevent gas from flowing from the tank

Thanks

Yes, closing the tank valve is a good idea.

It is just stuck. Give it a tap sideways with a block of wood or a plastic hammer

You most likely have a gasket that is stuck. Tap on the bowl lightly with a plastic hammer from the side and it should break free. Be prepared to replace that gasket.
Edit...Jim beat me to it.

Cletus1950,

The glass fuel bowl is stuck to the cork gasket. Carefully take a small screw driver and pry up on the glass bowl to remove it. You will probably need a new cork gasket which are available with most of the early Chevrolet truck vendors or E-Pay. Shut off the fuel tank valve before you remove the glass bowl to help prevent further gasoline leakage at the pump. That's the way I do it, but some may disagree about the fuel shut off valve at the tank? Hope this helps.

Tim
