For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2015 Posts: 37 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2015 Posts: 37 | I am new to Stovebolt. I just purchased a totally original, Chevy truck,1940 1/2 ton, Short bed.I consider myself lucky. My question? I thought all trucks had Vin numbers that included the letters KC..My Vin number (on title as well) starts 8KB059601. I think chevy put some trucks on passenger frames. Could this be the puzzle. It is a truck, stamped with a car Vin? Any help appreciated. This site is so kewl...

Your data plate should be on the right cowl under the hood. <CLICK> 8=Atlanta GA KB=Model Number 05=Made in May 9601=8600th vehicle made in May.

Are there other possible interpretations? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | I didn't catch that. I wonder if it still has the special hex/clutch head screws.

It would never be 100% certain that the plate had not been unscrewed from a car and then screwed on a truck? Or, it could be that a car code was mistakenly stamped onto a truck plate. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2015 Posts: 37 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2015 Posts: 37 | Thanks for all the info guys. I will check again. I bought it from a guy, who bought the truck from N.C., from a guy who's Pop was a car dealer decades ago.He in turn has had the truck for 25 yrs. That Vin number does show up on title. Will update. Thanks again | | | | | Joined: Nov 2015 Posts: 37 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2015 Posts: 37 | Whew...OK. found out the plate is not riveted, but has hex screws.Rusted. Dealer did some research and he thinks it may have been listed as a delivery truck. Dunno about that. The other probability is that it maybe one of the last Truck bodies they put on a car chassis. His mechanic lifted the truck and he strongly believes it's the original Frame and body. The nice thing, The dealer said if I was uncomfortable he would refund my partial payment. I don't think so. This truck is perfect for me. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Beebs,
