Is there a special tool used to remove the windshield/door chrome molding? How do I remove it without harming it and what is the proper way to reinstall after painting?
This is on a 49 Chevy pickup.

The windshield stainless is easily pulled out after unscrewing the center moulding, which covers it in the center. to remove that, unscrew the rear view mirror and take out the 4 screws from inside the cab. then pull the center vertical moulding off. You can then gently pry up the ends of the stainless surround moulding and pull it out. To reinstall, put the glass into the rubber and then put the stainless in the rubber before installing in the cab. The door stainless is removed after taking ou the window glass and glass channel. This is covered tn the shop manual and i don't remember how I did it.

If your talking about the windshield stainless used on the deluxe models. I find it best to cut the rubber from the inside of the cab and remove the glass. Once the glass is removed cut the rubber away from the glass at the back side until you get the stainless out safely. This will prevent damage to the stainless that can occur when cutting and prying the stainless from the outside. Be careful with the knife, the rubber can be brittle and a pain.

To remove the door stainless, you first remove the door glass garnish moldings and the glass channels. Once these are removed there are a few screws around the top three sides, just inside the pinchweld. Good Luck
