Would someone mind looking at these photos to see what you all think of the gears and synchros? The main shaft had a lot of play on both ends. I took a video. Are these bearings shot or does it need shimmed? Video

Video is still labeled Private so we can't see it. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 | OK try the video now, and here is a pic of the front of the case.

That's good in my opinion. Every Camaro T5 I have ever seen has a cable speedo connection. Some of the models came with an adapter that converted the cable output to VSS. I have a few of those adapters laying around here in my shop. That T5 should have a 0.72 overdrive gear which is really great for a 3.73 rear.
In the video you are not really showing end play. The up and down play you show is because everything is apart and the rear main shaft bearing race is not quite seated. What you demonstrate in the video is NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
End play is what you have when you have the T5 all back together and then you pull and then push on the input shaft. It should be snug but not hard to turn by hand. If you have a dial indicator, you can actually measure end play, but it's fairly easy to get a feel for it.
As far as the Jeep shaft swap, YES, you can swap it and it should work just fine. HOWEVER, keep in mind that since it is a WC T5 then you should swap in a WC Jeep IS if you can get one. If you can only find a NWC Jeep shaft, that can work too, BUT BUT BUT . . . . the NWC Jeep shaft MUST be used with a brass synchro ring. Simply remove the fiber WC style synchro ring and then swap in a NWC Jeep IS with a brass synchro ring.
Did you notice that the V6 IS has splines that are cut almost the entire length of the shaft? That means you can use a 14 spline Astro clutch disc and don't even need to do the Jeep shaft swap if you don't want to. However, the Astro van clutch disc is rather difficult to find (so people tell me). If you do the Jeep shaft swap, you will be able to use a standard 10 spline clutch kit.
Also, notice that the bearing retainer on your V6 Camaro T5 is already cut to the proper length.
No matter if you do the Jeep shaft swap or keep the original V6 shaft, you will need to cut a little off the pilot tip to make the shaft the proper length so it doesn't bind inside the pilot bushing.

You just need to change the 4th gear synchro. If you ordered the Jeep shaft from Summit or other supplier, it's likely a NWC. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 | How about this clutch? Clutch

I really don't know if the clutch you linked will work or not. Please report back if you end up buying it. That way we will all learn. Can you look at this Video and see if this looks right? I have no idea... Thanks, Chad

I will shoot a video of one I have so you can get your set back the way it needs to be. I'll get you through this little glitch. On second thought, take a good look at your Camaro case cover. Maybe that one is correct. Then all you need to do is spend 30 minutes making the S10 linkage look the same. LOL! Sorry for laughing at your expense but I've done the very same thing and it's not very much fun getting it back right. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 | LOL! Unfortunately that is my Camaro cover, I just switched out the long rod for the short one for the tailshaft. I do not have an S10 cover.

I hope there was enough light for you to see what's what. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 | Well I did all that and the shift rod (what slides forward and back and shifts the gears) will not fully slide forward (as if shifting into 2nd and 4th gears). I used the Camaro cover with the S10 rod and I know that the rod barely stays in the cover housing and sometimes pops out and comes loose, its like the rod isn't quite long enough. It needs another 1/2" length or so. Are the Camaro covers incompatible with the S10 shift rods?

I just went out to the shop and looked at some case cover casting numbers. It is a raised number on the case cover. I have a WC S10 and a WC Camaro with a 1352-097-917 casting on both case covers. I have a NWC S10 and NWC Camaro case covers with a 1352-097-901 casting. I believe all the internal parts of the shift linkages are identical. Just the rods are of a different length. Shoot another video and let me see what you have so far. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 203 | My Case Cover from the Camaro says "Basic 1A" and "88" which I assume means it is 1988. The case cover has no other numbers but it was with the WC Camaro case itself which is marked "Basic 2" and "88". The S10 tailhousing is stamped "13-52-066-933 R1".
The S10 shifter rod had no markings.
I reassembled the top cover per your video and it still will go into 1st,3rd,and 4th but it feels out of whack. If I take the tailhousing off, the trans will easily go into reverse, but not with it on.

I somehow believe that something still isn't put back together properly. I wish I was there to help. If you have an iPhone, we could do facetime and that might simplify sharing video. I agree that something is amiss but I can't pinpoint it. I even have a teardown and rebuild manual showing color step by step photos.
