For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 428 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 428 | I posted a couple of pics of my truck in a previous post asking for advice on how to fix a banged up rear bumper and the grill trim. The only response I have recieved was one stating that my pics could not be seen, yet I can see them just fine. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, try the link below, then let me know if you have any tips that may help. They usually use a pick or wedge shaped hammer to straighten dinks in trim work. Use a piece of hardwood to back it up or possibly the flat face of a small hammer. It takes alot of time to straighten it right. The rear bumper might be able to be straightened somewhat if you had a way to pull it back and down but doubt you could get crease completely out of it. Is front bumper painted or chrome? If painted you could probably straighten it some with a heavy hammer and fill and repaint. If chrome, it would probably chip if try to straighten. I don't know if this is any help or not. Maybe some of the others may have better ideas or first hand knowledge. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 | On the front, I would park the truck close to a tree.Take a hydraulic jack and a couple blocks of wod,use them to straighten the front bumper. For the rear, I would use a chain and pull it slowly kind of at an angle.Or use a large come-a-long(chain type).

Maybe there is something corrupt in your ubb code that was used when you posted your "image" from the "stovebolt posting box".
Maybe "editing" out your pic url in the original message and re-pasting the address with the "image" button?
HOW did you get the "TRUCK PIC" in this post to show up as a shortcut, and not a url??? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 | By the way, the grill shell alone will cost more to replace than both the bumpers!!
Patience ,patience, patience on straightning the grill!

I took it off, and took it to the local welding shop, where they had a very large hydraulic press. They managed to press it back into shape, and welded the part that had torn (it was in worse shape than yours). Shouldn't cost you much, I think they charged me five bucks. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2000 Posts: 247 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2000 Posts: 247 | Oh yeah, I can see your pics fine... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 12 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 12 | I can see the earlier pic, but until today it didn't show up for me either. Guess it got fixed. Good luck with the bumper. For future reference, let us know how it goes and what you ended up doing to get it staightened out. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 428 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 428 | Johnny, If you want to add a link to your post, click on the "URL" button that is underneath the text area and type in the address to your link, then click on "OK". Another screen will come up where you type in the name of your link, you can name it whatever you like; ex: TRUCK PICS . At this point you will see your link address and the name you gave it, but in the actual post, only the name will appear. Mechainiac, You are absolutely correct, a new grill is expensive, that is why I want to salvage the one I have. A lettered grill like mine costs $550 from LMC, too rich for me. Think I'll do some hammer work on it and get it as straight as possible. Like yo said, "Patience." Vaughn, There is a welding shop just about a mile from my house. My Dad knows the guy that owns it so maybe I can get a pretty good deal. I'll take the bumper off and get my Dad to take it by there one day to see if the guy can fix it. Thanks for the tip. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. I still have a long way to go with this project, but as my wife says, "Just keep working at it and eventually you will get there." I don't know how she does it, she has been going through chemo the last 3-4 months battling breast cancer and she hasn't let it get her down. She's great! | | |
