I have cleaned the Data Plate (Metal) Right Side Of Cowl on my panel truck, year unknown, and identified the following numbers/letters; 5BK114285.
I looked at some resources and found these interpretations.
5= kansas city
BK= 1942(early) and 1944 to 1945
11= November
4285= 3284th vehicle (4285-1001=3284)
Is this a correct identification? If not , what do you think it should be? trying to determine the year of my panel.
two photos are attached http://s970.photobucket.com/user/mvkansas/library/panel%20ID%20plate

5BK114285 - your decoding looks good

5= kansas city --- yes, Kansas City, MO

BK= 1942(early) and 1944 to 1945 = 1942 Light Delivery (a Light Commercial Truck)
Supposedly, no commercial trucks were built in 43-45, but an earlier truck might have been sold/registered in those years

11= November --- yes

4285= 3284th vehicle (4285-1001=3284) --- 3285 (starts at/with 1001, just subtract 1000)

If you have the original engine, the engine serial number would have a year code on it, I think. I do not have info on WWII engines, but other members here have that info.

To tclederman, I do not have the motor, transmission, or rear end to help determine the year of manufacture, thanks for the input.

In your PM, you indicated this is the correct plate for your truck.

Your codes on your title(s) (for two trucks/vehicles?) are:

----------
4AK219481 = 1941 light delivery truck

4 = plant code, no #4 plant indicated (page 10 for plant codes)
http://www.1954advance-design.com/chev-specs/1941-candt-ser.pdf

AK = 1941 (top of page 4 for AK truck code)
http://www.1954advance-design.com/chev-specs/1941-candt-ser.pdf
vehicle weights in 1941
truck gross allowable weights in 1941

It seems to me that the gross allowable weight is the weight that should be on the vehicle ID plate?

----------

----------
DBA568133 = 1946 Engine Serial Number 3100 series truck (4400-4600 lbs, depending on wheels)
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/4649.htm
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/4691.htm
----------

On what documents are you finding these codes?
Can you post photos of the codes/documents?

I might be making mistakes, above. Would someone please correct or confirm the codes' meanings?
