On the 66 models with a 4 speed, there is a button switch at the bottom of the shifter, to turn on the BU lights, when put into reverse. I tried to locate one thru the Chevy Garage, and if it's not in the computer, there not interested. Does anyone happen to have a parts book, that would give the part number for the Back Up Light switch on a 66, with a 4 speed?

OK, to make this more interesting, on our 66 Burb, the reverse switch is mounted vertical, and the lever on the shifter pushes straight down on it. Yesterday, I looked at a 66 Burb that a man is taking apart, and it has a button switch that is mounted horizontal, and when put into reverse, it rides along a rail. Both appear to be a factory setup, and seem to be quite rare. Does anyone know, was this standard equipment starting in 66 on trucks and Suburban's both with a 4 speed? And is one style more prevalent than the other?

I am curious about this as well. I have a 1962 C10, shortbed stepside with the SM-420 4 speed. I have found the switch mount bracket that goes on the transmission, but have not gone any farther with that part of my project.

I had back up lights on my 1963, but they did not come stock on my 1962. The 1963 had the powerglide and the switch was on the steering column near the floor board. It was part of the neutral safety interlock switch assembly.

I guess I should take another look at the bracket I have. See how it has the switch mounted. I haven't looked at it in a few years since it was a low priority on my To-Do list.

I believe the part # is 3718016. Let me know if you find one, I need one too. my 66 c10 is mounted vertically, similar to yours. Finding it tough to find a replacement switch though.

Yes, the number that you have is correct for the vertical switch. I have found one and should have it shortly, but you need to look around the internet. I've seen them from $35 to $180 (must be a pretty special one). I can't imagine that there are not some out there in the GM system still, but I don't have a parts guy that will take the effort to look it up. If it's not in the computer, he's not interested. It is listed as GM part group 2.698 if that helps. I have been looking for about 3 years for one, not real hard mind you, but still, as many 66 4speed trucks as there are out there, I would think they would be easier to find. Good luck in your hunt. Where did you find yours and how much. Found one for $85.

The person I got mine from, deals in old parts. I checked with him, and this was the only one he had. All I know is to keep checking with people who part them out, and the web. RJ is in Colorado, and you will see him listing items in the parts for sale section. There is also a guy out here in Sacramento who seems to have a bit of 60-66 parts for sale on craigslist all the time, might try him. Good luck, just remember it is just a little switch, there are options unless your going all out.
