The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop newer Suburban question

Wondering if anyone has done this or knows for sure.......I have an '84 Suburban with the "station wagon" style tail gate in back. I would like to put a set of cargo doors on it instead. Is this much of a task if you have the hinges, etc? it looks like a do - able situation to me.

Question #2 Anybody (west preferably) know of a salvage yard where I might pick up a set of doors? New ones (made in China from recycled beer cans) are quite steep. I've looked in several yards in my area and 'Burbs of this vintage are either scarce or rusted out.

There are several of these burbs in the local U-Pull here in and around the Portland Oregon area. Rear barn doors go for between $50 - $150 each. What trim color do you have?

How's the sheet metal hold up out in your neck of the woods? My 'Burb (I'm the second owner) was previously owned by a retired couple who wintered in FL so it doesn't have the usual mid-west rust out that these bodied Chevys usually have. I'd love to have a set of nice G.M. doors. My 'Burb is black with grey interior. Silverado is the trim level. Also, it has the super dark tint glass package but, I could always use film for that.

The only problem I have seen is that the lower seals become porous and hold moisture and eventually the bottom seam starts to rust. Lots of rain keeps it wet several months out of the year and after about 10 years it starts to rust unless you keep it waxed. No salt induced corrosion though.
