The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Emblem Paint

Rechroming being out of the question at this time due to budgetary constraints I have cleane up the hood emblem and both fender emblems for my 59 Apache. Am about ready to begin masking in order to repaint the black and red backround areas of these pieces and am wondering what type of paint will be suitable for holding to these chrome pieces. Most of the original paint is still intact and holding well and this will be a temporary job until the budget allows rechroming (no more than a year likely). Would just rattle can enamel suffice or should I consider an epoxy or something else.
By the way, has anyone had these pieces rechromed lately and at what cost.

WB - I had the same situation with my emblem. I opted to go the paint route until such time that I can afford to rechrome or replace. I sanded down the rust and bubbled chrome, then used a rattle can primer. I used Rustoleum primer for heavily rusted metal. I have had good luck with it. It seals nicely and takes rattle can enamel very well. That was 4 years ago and it stil looks great.

WILL IT BE NICKLE-CHROME PLATTED(CALLED DOUBLE PLATTING) OR TRIPLE PLATED, SAME PROCESS AS DOUBLE PLATING BUT INCLUDES A LAYER OF COPPER BEFORE THE FINAL CHROME PLATE IS APPLIED) ALL THIS WILL DETERMINE

Hey Ranger-53, I was in Honolulu 3 weeks ago and only saw ONE "stovebolt" AD Chevy truck driving down the road. It was going the opposite direction so I did not get a real good look at it but it was blue. Was that you?? It looked good, not much old Iron on the Island driving around! wbkinsey, I painted my emblems using an airbrush and model train paint (modelflex). Worked great. The paint is cheap, comes in hundreds of colors and can be bought in small quatities. An airbursh can be had for as little as $15.

Just read #17. Funny, but I too just purchased and got approval to put a 1972 Nebraska plate on Maych. The best part is I don't ever have to renew the registration - it's good for life, so no "little stickers" to muck up the look.
