Is that code an engine serial number or a vehicle serial number?
What is the size of the engine and what is the engine serial number (pressed into a 6 cylinder block rearward of the distributor)?
My guess is that it is a vehicle serial number (for a 350, 2-ton series truck, 137" wheel base).
Below are wild guesses of what each character/digit might signify (but, I do not know the order of the digits for 1959)
353 P S 2452 E
353 = 350 series 2 ton
353 - the "3" = 137" wheel base
P = Pontiac, MI plant (a guess)
S = 1958/1959 (a guess) = S-series (GMC did not ID engines by calendar year, they used a model year letter/code)
2452 = serial/sequence number = (I think) 1452nd 2-ton truck in that 58/59 series
Where did you find the code?
- on title/registration
- on VID plate
If it is on a plate, can you post a link to a photo of the code/plate?
There are members here and at the oldGMCtrucks discussion board who are more knowledgeable about GMC codes than I am.
