I can't seem to find anyone who has the right measurements for the axle center line for a reference! I have seen on the TV show trucks 20 15/16 from the end of the frame to center. Then speedway has instructions saying to measure from front shackle hole, 18 1/8 but neither one match my center line! Can anyone help me!

I didn't install the crossmember personally but I have a sneaking suspicion the installer fitted it slightly forward of the recommended location.
I'll let you know.

I can't even talk to the guy that installed my crossmember as to why he fitted it further forward.
We don't talk any more as a consequence of some other 'issues' with other work he did to my truck.
That also explains why my chassis didn't need clearanced for the steering rack arms!
How far off are the Speedway measurements from the stock axle centreline on your truck?

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 22 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 22 | Actual centerline on my truck is 21 3/16",and what speedway wants is 18 1/8"! So 3 1/16 ish!! Different which is a lot in my book!! So then I talked to a few hotrod builders and they all told me strip all of the old parts off. Then put the front clip back on then get a set of wheels around the size I'm going run, center them in the fenders where they look right, then put a piece of round stock on the bottom of rims which will naturally find its center and run a plumb bob to the center of that, and mark the frame! I haven't found time to finish cleaning the frame up, so I can finish what they said but I'll let you know what I come up with in the end!

| | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 21 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 21 | Just installed a speedway unit on my 53 GMC1/2 ton .The 18 1/8 measurement is from the center of hole of front shackle Bolt on frame | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | Your horse is already out of the barn since the factory front axle is gone but what we do is make a plumb bob "T" pole with the leg tacked to the cowl/firewall and a plumb bob hung from each arm so the string hangs exactly through the center of the old spindles with the wheels straight. Put the new front end in with the strings in the center of the spindles and your dead on. A bonus is it leaves both hands free to juggle around what ever without using a tape. Do not change the angle of the frame till the new front is tacked in place as the change in angle throws the string off.

Hi I see you installed a Speedway IFS unit, was the 18.1/8 centerline measurement correct? were your wheels centered in the well.....also where do you measure center of crossmember from? I'm getting ready to install one myself. ANY help you could give would be appreciated. thanks | | |
