Have a 1961 Chevrolet c 10. Have replaced the generator with an alternator an wired up. Picked up a volt meter out of a late seventies to mid eighties Chevrolet truck.Got it to look right in the dash cluster. What is the best way to wire in as I want to keep the generator warning light too?

Negative side to ground. You can use the outside of the gauge cluster for that if its grounded. Positive to Ignition switch switched power. The nice thing about the voltmeter is you can hook it up to the positive side of anything that is switched on with the ignition.
