I would like to add the linkage style power steering to my 59 2.5 ton. I found a place called authentic automotive that makes full oem style linkage power steering kits. I just dont know if it will work because, of course, they are only listed to fit up tp 3/4 ton. My 59 chevy truck shop manual only shows one power steering setup across all models of trucks. Does anyone have experience with this to tell me if it will work? Or any other solutions to get power steering on this truck would be helpfull as well. Btw, this truck has a 366 in it, not the original engine.

Gene,

I don't know anything about Authentic Automotive, but can tell you the Drag Links with control valves and the Hydraulic Cylinders are all different. In your case the Cylinder will be the same for all Series 4, 6, 8 & 10, but the Drag Link is Series specific and is 58/59 only...that will be the hard part to find.

The pump should be the easy part if you don't care about keeping it original. The original pump was mounted to the back of the generator.

Hello Gene,

Recent research has (the 1959 Chev truck manual) shows that:
the 3100, 3200, 3600 and 3800 have a 1.37 internal diameter steering cylinder
- the 4000 thru 8000 models have a "2" internal diameter steering cylinder
-9000 & 10000 models have a 2.375 internal diameter steering cylinder.

Those models have different flow rate pumps to correlate with the ram.

Check out the manuals and they may give you more insight
