I have check Google, Ramsey Products, & searched for PTO's both long and short version.

Here's what I have a Rockwell T221 Transfer case with what appears to be a Ramsey PTO mounted on the side.
Also has a speed o cable attached to the transfer case.

1. What is it exactly? Is it really a PTO?
2. How does it work?

First, you are going to have the speedo cable attached to the transfer case so the speedo will be correct when in low or high gear in the transfer case.

The Ramsey part on there is a PTO gearbox. Most of theirs were configured to send the shaft out the front to a bumper mounted winch, but this one points out the back. It would be used for other needs in the bed area. A winch mounted in the bed with some poles would be a popular application for this. There could also be some farm type applications, maybe it ran a hydraulic pump or ?

To operate it, you should be able to move the lever forward/backward to engage it, turn the input on the front of the Tcase which is inline with the PTO and see which way you have to shift the lever to get output through the PTO.

Here are the only other mentions I found about them:

I have a 221 in my 68. It has been a good one for me.

Just ran across your post and I'm also looking to fit a PTO to my Rockwell transfer case. The photo you had of the Ramsey PTO looks exactly like what I'm looking for. Do you have a model number for the Ramsey PTO in your picture so I can start hunting? Anything would be helpful.

I wish I could find one like that for my Spicer 23 t-case. But I have no idea what model to look for. It would be great if it was the same what fits on Rockwells.

Here's what I think I've figured out. The Spicer 23 transfer case came in an "A" model and a "B" model. The "A" will accept a rear PTO whereas the B will not. For the "A" case the rear attachment point is a 5 bolt pattern whereas the B is a 4 bolt pattern. I have not found any PTOs which will match a 4 bolt pattern, they all seem to be 5. Having said that I saw a rear mount PTO for T223 Rockwell out on eBay. Here's a link. Not sure how much difference there is between the 221 and the 223. Somebody over at the Binder Planet forum would know, its the IHC forum.

Hope this helps, there's very little information out there, one lands up trying to tie pieces together from various forums and manuals. Do you have the NAPCO manual that shows the PTO?
