Which years, will interchange? Will it matter if the five window comes from a Chevy & not a GMC? Our cab has the cowl vent in front of the windshield, vent windows in the doors, & push button door handles. It has louvers on the passenger side in front of the door. It does not have the small vent door in front of the driver's door. Which years fit these parameters? Did they change the mounting pattern to the frame in any years? They use push button door handles, they also have no vent in side panel on drivers side. '51 Chevy cabs use pull down door handles so latches were different. '54 and 1st series '55 Chevy cabs went to 1 piece windshields. I'm not as familar with GMC cabs, they must have gone to push button door handles a year before Chevy from your description of your '51.  | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | 47 - early 49 cabs had a cast base in the middle rear of the cab. Late 49-55 1st series mounted with 2 " shackles " on either side to the frame [the same as your '51 ].
In your case Any late 49 - 53 Chevy or GMC cab will work.
The driver side cowl vent was discontinued with the introduction of the door vent windows in 1951.
You say your truck is a 51 - 51 is the only year with the pull down handles & the vent windows in the doors.
The doors you describe on your truck are for 52-55 1st series, so either your truck is a 52-55 or someone traded out for later doors at one time or another. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 11 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 11 | Thank you both for your replies. I've had others question the 1951 model year attributed to my truck, due to the push button door handles. It is quite possible the old fellow that i purchased the truck from was mistaken when he told me it was a 1951. He didn't have a title to the truck that might verify the model year. I had speculated that perhaps GMC came out with certain features a model year ahead of Chevy, in order to distinguish them from Chevy (but that seems unlikely). | | |
