I don't see how to get the pads out otherwise. The manuals don't cover this. . The brakes on the 51 3/4 are the famous hucksters.
Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2015 Posts: 149 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2015 Posts: 149 | Cyclone
Not a mechanic by any means here, but I have a '48 1/2 ton and had a difficult time removing the rear hubs also. If possible access the adjustment holes on the back side of the hub and begin turning the adjustment to release the shoes from the hub. My wheel cylinder adjustments were so rusted I eventually had to use a large pulley puller to remove the hub. After a few special words and a tap-tap with wood block and hammer I got them removed. They seem to be interconnected and mounted to a bracket. This bracket appears to mounted behind the hub. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I don't think you need to remove the hub to take the shoes off. Here is the instruction for that in the manual. I am not sure that the pin locks they sell new fit the 3/4 Ton. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2015 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2015 Posts: 13 | I don't see a reason why a heavy duty retaining ring that he fits the pin grooves can not replace the lock washers. In going to take the calipers to the groves and see if my friend McMaster has a suitable retainer ring. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | And you'll let us know what you find, won't you Wade? I didn't have any luck when I went looking a decade ago and just ended up using the original style pin locks which the vendors carried at the time. Other than brake squeal when applying very light pressure I've not had any issues with the totally stock Huck brake parts.
