So I'm going to install a Elect fuel pump to feed my Weber carb. First thing I realize is I'll need a "return line" to relive pressure.

Now sense the supply line is just under Head Pressure. And mounted high enough to where the Head pressure is negative. Why can't I just tap back into that line for the return.

Generally you don't need a return line. Late model fuel injection systems require a return but that shouldn't apply in your application.
In most cases it is better to mount the electric pump near the tank and it is also a good idea to use a fuel pressure regulator.
Both of these items can be obtained from most auto parts stores in both 6 and 12 volts. Electric pumps not unlike mechanical pumps sense pressure and will bypass. You can also use an electric pump to supplement a mechanical pump.

to your first question, just a comment:
even when running a return line into a surge tank reservoir, there is another return line going to the main fuel tank.

i run Two fuel pumps in the tank. switch the wire, if fuel issues occur.

Whenever I use an electric fuel pump, I prefer to use a pressure regulator which has a port for a return line. This has the added benefit of creating a continuous flow of fuel through the system, keeping the fuel cool, preventing vapor lock.

Power the electric pump with an oil pressure sensing switch to prevent flooding in case the engine stalls. I've seen numerous incidents of a crankcase full of gasoline and gas dripping out of the tailpipes from a fuel pump that kept running because of an ignition switch left on after an engine stop. That's also a good way to blow the valve covers off the engine from a crankcase full of gasoline vapors.

Hey Jerry, I installed a low pressure fuel pump near the gas tank on a momentary switch for vapor lock problems. The mechanical fuel pump is very high on this motor and it is known to suffer fuel starvation when hot in stop and go traffic. You see any problems?
Another problem my buddies and I have with Edlebrock carbs comes after weeks of no running of motor. We have to crank the motor for 20 or so seconds to get fuel back into carb. Would a 6 to 8 pound fuel pump near the tank on a momentary switch help this problem?
