The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors Welting or Top Stitching

I am going to have my seat reupholstered on my 53 3100. My friend, that owns the upholstery shop, found some reproduction upholstery that matches the upholstery that was original to our AD trucks. I tore out a few layers of seat covers over 15 years ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't as interested in bringing my truck back to original as I am now. So, I didn't really pay much attention to what the seats looked like. I am trying to decide if they had welting around the edge of the seat. Or, were they just top stitched? Or, did they come from the factory both ways? Was it a year to year thing? Where the truck was made? Or, did the deluxe five window cab have welting and the standard cab have top stitching? I know that a number of you "bolters" have original interiors to reference. I am asking for help and guidance with my decision.

Yes, they used welting. This is an original 1950, 3604 seat
before it was replace.

My bet would be that the '53 was still using welting in the
seams.
But these are pictures of an original '54 seat, they are
calling it a French seam, but it's really not a french seam
in the true sense.

Thanks for the pictures. I was able to forward the link to my buddy that is doing the upholstery work for me. That solves that. Now if everything on our restorations were that easy.
