I noticed the parts are a little harder to find than the 64-66s. I just restored a 65 and have sold it. Is a 62 a good choice or should I stick with the 64-66 | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 197 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 197 | Depends, IMHO. Different truck in a lot of aspects. Hydraulic clutch, torsion bar front suspension instead of coil springs, 10 bolt rear end, etc. If it's a good low mileage truck, though, you may not really need any major parts, which will be the hard to find stuff. Small stuff seems to be easily available through all the truck parts places.
-I don't have one though, so take this info for what it is. (Hey, remember that "worth what you paid for it" thing? He He.)

Keep this in mind though: Add a '63 to your 64-66 list.
'63's are unique in that they have the wrap-around windshield but they have the coil spring front suspension. They also have the older x-frame.

The only part that I found really almost non existent was the grill, most everthing else is available somewhere. The '62's are not that available, so when you have one, rest assured you will be unique and likely not find someone else with the same thing. I put F.I. on mine, so that makes it even more unique. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 | I would agree with 66submarine. In 1963, along with changing the front suspension from torsion bars, to A-arms & coils, the frame changed from X-frame, to ladder-frame, as found on the '64-'66 truck. | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 | I would agree with 66submarine. I thought '63's had x-frames. | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 117 | I did not buy the truck It had a perfect grill and the front end. But it needed both rockers and one pan. The cab corners were good but the back and front glass was cracked. Both fenders were trash. The bed was usable and so were the doors but they need work. the seat was no good. The guy only wanted 500 for the truck but It was more than I wanted to do. No motor or transmission. The truck is in central arkansas. | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | Smart move,I have a62 and love it but you don't want to start with a piece of junk. Keep looking. | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 | The 62 grill is actually similar to the 60 grill. The headlights have special plates to make them into 2 single lights instead of quads.

Maybe you have found the GM heritage site from the SB links page. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/index.htmIf I were betting, I would say Saginaw. | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,066 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,066 | ausumtim, The stock 3 speed transmission would be what is commonly known as a Muncie SM318, non syncro first gear, 4 bolt side cover, they came with either a long or short tail housing.
