The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Data/build plate?

I'm looking at getting an original '60-'63 and am wondering how I can tell if the motor is original, as well as any installed options. The VIN, of course, tells me nothing. Is there a build sheet or build plate hidden on these that tells me what all the truck is supposed to have?

Build Sheet, possible but not probable.

Look under the seat between the springs and the seat cushion.

Might also be one between the gas tank and the back of the cab.

Generally speaking, unlike muscle cars and other collectibles, originality doesn't mean much, in regard to $$$, on these trucks.

You can tell the date of the motor?

Do you have a registration/title that shows a vehicle ID, and does the ID code have a year-date in it (that ID may be VIN you refer-to in the first post)?

Oh, I don't have one yet, I was just querying if a data plate existed on these showing the paint, tranny, motor, and option codes (like the plates in gloveboxes of Fords). From what I can see, no such ID plate was installed in Chevy/GMC trucks. Does GM have a database of VINs and this data?

In 1966 Chevrolet did start adding the Service Production Identification Data, aka "SPID", stickers in the glovebox that identifies what options the truck had from the factory. http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/...20Parts%20Identification_zpssmbgxfpr.jpg
