Well I did it. I just purchased the 59 Apache 32 Fleetside I've been looking at. 350,funky p/s,p/b,4 speed,4WD w/np205 transf. case!!(#'s from plate on tranfer case: Model 205, ratio:196,ser.#4275, assy.# 3987901) I have to try to figure out what tranny it is (granny low - orig.?), and what the motor came out of, and what the axels are from. Seller says at least some of it is '87 Blazer. Anybody know what #'s I need to look for? or a good book to look up this stuff in?? The plate on the drivers door pillar says trim:RPO-258A paint:RPO-731J, and by the VIN I know it was built in Kansas City. I would be grateful for any info, Norse helped a lot already when I was still hemming & hawing about it. I would put up a pic or two but don't know how to do that... also with the truck igot an odd looking part - I think might be PTO related?? it is stamped with the word Eaton, and has three fluid ports and an input(?) shaft, :confused:

Does it have a straight-cut gear and six bolt holes in the casting? It sounds like you've got a PTO hydraulic pump that is supposed to mount on the passenger's side of the transmission. The gear will slide in or out of mesh with the cluster gear in the transmission, and provide hydraulic pressure to run a dump bed, snowplow lift cylinder, etc.

It has three mounting studs around the input shaft which is approx. 5/8" in dia., smooth with a small woodruf key and a bolt in the end??? I , haveing not a clue, would think that it could be a power steering pump but there is not a fluid res. and I think I saw the name Eaton on this site in regards to trans. or axels.... since the first posting I've found that the new project has a wobbly rear drivers side wheel , and its not a bent wheel. I think it might be a bent axel...going to be learning a lot I'm sure!!

If there's no drive gear, you've got a hydraulic pump/motor called an "orbit" motor, possibly. Eaton made several types of these pump/motor combinations. It will either pump hydraulic fluid, or be driven by pressurized fluid like a motor, depending on the application. To use it, you'd need a PTO drive system, with a gear that meshes with the transmission, and another pump or motor to drive something. It's pretty good swap meet material, unless you've got the whole system.

To find out if the axle is bent, remove the wheel and brake drum, and spin the axle. If the flange wobbles, you need a replacement axle.

I had just done what you suggested, and yep it wobbles :mad: Is it a big job to do?? It can't be good to be driving around on bent bits....and thanks for the info on the UTP (unidentified truck part)!!

It sounds like you've got some later-model axles under that one, so I'm going to make a few assumptions here- - - - -Changing an axle will require removing the rear cover plate from the differential, and removing the spider gears and pivot shaft in the center of the differential. There's a retaining bolt in the differential housing on one end of the pivot shaft. Remove that, slide the shaft out, and the spider gears will roll out. Be careful not to lose the thrust washers behind the gears. Push the axle shaft toward the center of the rear end, and a "C" clip will be exposed on the inner end of the axle. Remove that, and the axle can be pulled out of the housing. Replace the oil seal at the outboard end of the axle housing, and possibly the wheel bearing behind it while you've got it apart, and reassemble with a replacement axle. Reassembly is the reverse order of how it came apart. good luck!

Thanks Jerry, sounds like fun. I got a link from GMCPanel to a axel guide and it looks like a Dana44 in front and the offending rear is a GM 12bolt. The learning begins.
