Hi All. I'm new to the forum and looking for help in finding the correct place to mount the coolant overflow container on my 55 gmc 100 (2nd). I'm replacing the leaking original radiator with its broken off overflow connect, and re-mounting the missing reservoir. Does any one have information/photos for the correct mounting location for the overflow container? The truck is mostly original, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Just bumping this one in hopes someone might have a suggestion for proper coolant overflow mounting location

If your truck had an overflow container it was an accessory. I don't know what it would look like on a '55-56 GMC but I have seen one for an AD Chevrolet.

I'd pose this question at oldgmctrucks.com . Ol' Kook just might have a picture of one somewhere.

Thanks! After days of searching, I found this guide and this photo on Vintage Chevrolet Club of America today. Unfortunately, my 12 volt batt gets in the way, so I'll mount it on the inner fender. The additional volume of water can only help my early 2nd series with no expansion tank.

You are right. It's an accessory, and mostly pre 2nd series. The engineers built in a pseudo overflow tank into the later radiator tanks. I found all this today. It never rains but it pours when it comes to researching obscure accessories. If anyone wants the repro tank they are at Bowtiebits.com
