I have a 74 250 six and a TH350 transmission in my 53 1/2 ton.
I would like to know if anyone in Bolt land can direct me to info. on how the electrical/mechanical linkage works between engine/carb/ignition
and the transmission. Mine was hooked up by a PO and I see loose wires at the transmission. Id like to know how all this stuff is adjusted to work properly.

Generally a TH350 trans will have a shifter attached either to a column shifter or possibly a floor shifter. There is also a kick down cable connected to the carb linkage and the front left side of the trans case. A vacuum hose from the engine to the modulator located on the right rear of the trans.
There could be a backup light switch on the left side of the trans and on later 350 "C" transmissions a torque converter lockup switch. Possibly the PO installed an aftermarket neutral safety switch which would be attached to the trans pan and connected to the shift linkage.
Those are the only electrical components I am aware of on a 350 transmission.

The kickdown is a cable from carb to tranny. It is not necessary to hook up. It downshifts for passing. If you have electrical wires with a connector that connects to tranny, you may have a lock up style 350 or you may not. You need to examine the transmission to find a connector. (drivers side, half way, 4 pin) Study the web for where it's located. They are on later 350's. It will need to be hooked up. You will have to give us better info on what you see. I don't believe a 350 has a built in neutral safety switch. There should be a stand alone "mechanical" switch operated by column or floor shift. The movement of the shifter operates it and the backup lights. I assume you have a aftermarket floor shifter???? If there are no connectors coming out of tranny, then the wires are for neutral/backup. Prevents starter from working unless in park. Backup lights are wired to come on when lever is in R. Could be one switch does both.
If you have a cable from carb to a tiny tranny rod down in a hole and you want to hook it up (kickdown), see web for instructions. No wires for this. Again, it is not necessary. You can down shift by hand, but do you really do a lot of "power passing"?

My shifter is a T handled one likely from the donor vehicle. I cant find any elect. connection on the transmission. I do have the kickdown cable attached to the throttle and the right side of the transmission. The only thing I pass is a slow moving farm tractor. There is a steel tube from the intake manifold to what I assume is the vacuum modulator on the left rear of the transmission. Dont know what the Vac modulator does.
The shifter has a black wire coming out of it and inside looks like there should be a bulb to light up the shifter numbers and letters. Nothing is hooked up.
Im planning on converting to a Lokar shifter at some point so am trying to figure out what makes everything tick.

I did a Lokar on a 350 and used the nostalgic shifter, looked cool, worked great. Vacuum modulator shifts the transmission and needs a vacuum line from intake manifold behind carb. Don't recognize "steel tube" except a dip stick.
