Just picked up a 1950 3/4 ton and the valve cover has a hold down halo around it. Metal band wraps around circumference of valve cover and 2 band go over the top where the valve cover bolts go. i have never seen one of these and cant find any info about it. What is it, is this the way they all came and they all got thrown away?? Pic in in photobucket link.. Thanks

Period accessory, I think.

I've seen somewhere else on the web. Maybe Jim Carter article or pre-68 Daves site.

I have never seen one before either, but I like it.
Looks like it would help cut down on the leaking on those early two bolt valve covers.

Same here, noticed that when I was looking at the spare carrier.
I would hang onto those, they are a very unusual part of the
after market offerings from that time period.
I see by the album that they are in, that you're selling those
parts???
You might try listing them in the swap meet here, I'm sure they
would be snatched up by some......like me.

I have seen these valve cover hold downs (halos) on several occasions. They were an aftermarket item sold to help seal a distorted valve cover. Not really rare, but used and discarded when customer decided to replace the valve cover with a new one. I was looking for one a few months back. If you are interested in selling it at a reasonable price just PM me. Also interested in that under bed spare tire carrier. Let me know.

Thanks,

Tim
