Greetings all, I have been slowly getting myself into a world of a mess with my first true antique vehicle, a 1953 3800 flatbed.

While my plans for this old girl might be considered borderline blasphemous by the die-hards, I do plan to keep as much of the "feel" as possible.

Without going into too much detail on the eventual plans, I have begun to wonder what value there might be in some of the original gear. No this is not a classified posting, rather, an effort to see if there are folks out that to whom the leftovers would be desired.

As it sits, I will at some point have a frame, rear axle (H072), rear suspension, and original engine that will need to go. While the axle and frame are in excellent condition, there is no telling what the internals of the engine are looking like. Frame is straight and only modifications (as best i can tell is an addition to the rear-most crossbar of a makeshift hitch point.

What does the demand for this type of package look like these days?

Am I better off chopping this up and hauling it to the scrap yard or would folks be lining up down the block for the chance to score such a sweet deal on some antique metal?

If the engine is the old 216 not many will want it. If it is a 235 you might get a little for it.
The rest of it I'd hope you can find someone that wants it but I wouldn't expect to get much if any money for it. More like be pleased to give it to someone that can use it instead of cut it up for scrap.

I would say the brake drums if good, are in demand. I talked to the brake drum king at Hershey a couple of years ago and he had no sources. he says the supply has dried up. Also if you own an old 1 Ton and a spindle gets damaged, the truck gets parked until one shows up. It is the same thing for the spring hangers.

Fred,
Thats why I kept the 50 parts truck rolling chassis next to the shed and hidden from the other half.
Could have scrapped it MANY times in the past 8 or so odd years.
Regards,
steve sr.
