For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 65 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 65 | I have a Stromberg BXOV-2 Carb on my 216 and over the last 6 months its been hard to start. While checking the float level I noticed that the fuel level overnight dropped considerably. Since then I have been starting by cranking 4 -5 times to get the fuel level up then she normally starts OK
My question is where can the fuel in the carb bowl disappear to? No drips or weeping below and I cant see how fuel could go back down the fuel line

If fuel pump diaphragm has a hole of crack in it, the fuel will drain back some and siphon fuel out of the carb. Thus the hard start. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 2,774 Carburetion specialist | | Carburetion specialist Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 2,774 | Good carburetion is fuelish hot airThe most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify. The modern fuel causes these old engines some trouble at cold and hot start-up. Also, I used to have a little trouble starting my truck in the mornings, but after replacing the fuel pump as Quindel suggests, I am able to start the truck without touching the gas pedal. That's even after it has sat for two or three days. | | |
