Has anybody seen a 1/2 ton AD truck with spare tire carriers on both side? If so, was it factory? I have seen the tire carriers on the left side or the right side. Were they factory on either side?

1946 1/2 ton - 1962 "261"
1953 1/2 ton 5-window - "235"
1955 1/2 ton - 55 "265" Corvette motor
1959 1/2 ton Fleetside - "283"

The side mount spare was a option on 53,54,55.1 GM trucks it was mounted on the left side. You cam modify any side fender and mount it on both sides if you wish. 53 carriers work only with the 6.00x16 tire. We manufacture reproductions to fit other wheel tire sizes. A reproduction carrier will cost about $190 54/55 some what more.

I ran across a'53 1/2 ton that was a power company
truck & it had dual spares ! I inspected the passenger side fender dimple closley & it looked just like a factory stamping. This is the only truck I have seen in 25 years that appeared to have factory dual side mount spares & I believe it was a super rare "on request" only option. Good luck finding one ! Metal Man has the info. to convert the smooth fender to the dimpled style

Perhaps trucks that where right hand drive could have had the spare mounted on the right? GM would have had to make a die for a right rear fender with the indent, A big expense.
The how to on the rear fender conversion is on the stove bolt page under tech tips.

I have seen several that were for sale over the internet that had the spare tire carrier on the passenger side only. I have only seen one that has spares on both sides.

I have seen some long bed ones mounted on the right, they dont need the dimple. But, I have never seen a dimpled fender on a shortbed on the passenger side. I think you mean you have seen many for sale with them on the driver's side.

I've seen the dual mount spare option on several trucks up to 72. Unfortunately, that was when I was a kid, so they are long gone. Check industrial use trucks, thats where you would see them. Also, they might have been an option for Canuck trucks and cattle trucks - they could always use an extra spare in the outback.
