Does anyone know of a source where the "dust band" could be purchased? I don't know the correct terminology, but it's the metal band that clamps around the starter to close up the openings.

How far west? Once upon a time there was a great wrecking yard just south of Monahans that would have had lots of these. But that was a long time ago and things do change.

Ordered the part (and of course, several other items) from the suggested vendor. Not quite as far west as Monahans. Loraine, TX is about 60 miles west of Abilene.

I grew up down near the border (south and west from Monahans). I came up with a slogan for Monahans in the 60s, but the townspeople didn't seem to like it: "Nothing is like Monahans".
