Hello;
Can anyone tell me about sources/details for these items:
1. correct clutch housing leather release lever boot.
2. correct 6 cylinder oil filler cap.
3. correct radiator and heater clamp rings.
4. correct radiator cap.
5. correct AC glass fuel filter.
6. mountings for fog lights.
7. correct spark plug wires, did they have boots on spark plug ends?

welcome to the garage Charles ... you won't find #1 anywhere in leather, some of the vendors may have workable rubber ones ... #2-6 you're looking for used, and #7 you might find a picture in the shop manual or other literature, but good luck finding a new set the same

Hello Bill;

just to verify my questions: Danchuk shows leather for 55-57 car
clutch release levers, would they be the same for the 55-59 truck?
Gene Smith makes v-8 oil filler caps, but no 6 cylinders, any
thoughts? Jim Carter shows both wire rings and tower type clamps
for 55-59, which is correct? lastly, the price range for spark plug
wires is $15 to $65 depending on the supplier. The higher price is
from the reproduction wiring companies. Any thoughts there.

Thank you, Charles

the car clutch lever boot might fit, all you can do is try, I've never seen one ... the V8 oil fill was a tube the breather cap pushes onto, the 6 cyl is a hole in the valve cover with a "twist lock" breather .... plug wires should be available at any local auto parts store

Charles-

Can I assume you want this truck 100% original/restored to original/original equipment? Or, are you wanting to know what was used?

Oil filler cap
Glass filter
Good gosh there are some expensive spark plug wires available.

Both the wire rings and the tower-type hose clamps were available in 1959. That means both would be correct.
Here.

First time I've ever been to that website, hope it helps.

Just checking the Assembly and Shop manuals, neither shows a boot of any kind on the release lever.

Bill or OP- what exactly is that boot that was asked about?

On the bell housing?

Hello Uncle Brad;
Thanks for the update, I will look into Eckler's late great Chevrolet. The ad you posted for the oil fill cap
looks good, but doesn't say v-8 or 6 cyl. I'll call for
details. The spark plug wires on Eckler's ad show 1990
type plug boots, not anywhere near origional. The fuel filter looks good, but other new ones that I've seen have an updated tension screw . This one doesn't show a bottom view. My assembly manual shows wire clamps on 55 models with one view of a 1958 348 motor with ring clamps also. My 58 Apache of 35 years ago had a wire re-enforced leather clutch release boot.
I do appreciate the feedback
Thanks, Charles

Hello again Uncle Brad;

I just realized that I did not answer your question properly.
Yes, my desire is to restore this old truck close to factory condition as possible using reproduction parts when I can from reputable sources. But I find that mis-information is quite abundant.

Respectfully, Charles

Hello longbox55;

Thanks for the reply, My 29-59 parts manual does show
a release lever boot, but I'm not sure the 55-57 cars
use the same boot. I will compare the origional GM part
number to Danchuk.

Thanks much, Charles

The cap shown at Ecklers is for the 6 cylinder.

Charles you should be on the right track with a factory restoration, as much as that is possible.

Restoration stuff/ radiator clamps I found this one yesterday & noticed they had a plethora of hose clamps; they'd know what you need.

Call the Filling Station, Jim Carter, Classic Parts, the other ones- most of them should be prepared to answer your questions on what came on your truck, originally.

I have found this forum is collectively better at knowing a lot of it, because we collectively own most all models and have identified the changes over the years. Sorting through all that "mis-information" is kinda what we do.

To all those watching my post:

Eckler's says their oil filler cap will not be available until December 2015. The part number is 34-26789 @ $29.99. Also their 7 lb. radiator cap with correct markings has been discontinued.
the radiator cap in their 47-92 truck catalog looks good, but does not show a 7 lb., just 13 and 15 lb. models.

A question for those who may know: Which is the correct fuel filter (AC glass type) for my 59 235 engine. Eckler's 55-57 car
catalog shows (3) different units, but (2)appear the same except
for price. Two are high hump models.

all replies appreciated, Charles
