For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 26 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 26 | I have a "41" 160" wheelbase truck. It was a one owner when I got it. Have original 41 title. Motor & vehicle #'s match title. Motor " is AG 406025. From the research I have done this indicates the motor is a 1941 235. I cannot find any references to 1941 AG engines with a 6 digit number. The VIN is 9YS01-4541. I think this indicates the truck was built in "9" Ohio, YS is 160" WB, 01= Jan. and the 4541 is the number off the line. This truck is unusual in the fact that it came with a 4 speed & a "brownie" from the factory, so I assume this was a special order option as the truck was used in very heavy duty logging work. I believe the long block to be OK, so it may not make much difference to me in getting it running again but I sure would like to know. Maybe a couple tips on little known id methods?? Can send Pics if needed now that I'm through most of the grease buildup.
Any help would be much appreciated

Using this website http://home.znet.com/c1937/Prod.htmand knowing that the 235 was only available on conventional HD and COE models, the potential number of 235's would be 92,221 1.5 Tons and 3,540 COE's. That's far short of engine number 405,024. Perhaps the engine number only makes sense if you include the 235 engine production with the total number of engines produced for all models in 1941 which was 1,243,554. Just my thoughts. Hope this helps and good luck with your project.

Are 216 & 235 points, cond, regulator interchangable. I assume they would be, but you know what happens when you assume. My "parts I bought thinking they would work, but didn't" box is overflowing.
Here is another little mystery for which surfing hasn't supplied the answer. The truck is equipped with what I thought was a straight "over/under" brownie, but I'm beginning to doubt that. The shift lever is very short & would be awkward to use in that manner....then I found a pencil diagram on the dashboard. It is an L shape. top of the L said "high" , bottom left said "std" & bottom right said "low". Any idea what this type gear box might be called?? I suspect it may be a "pick your range,hi,std or low" & then just shift the primary 4 speed.Any hints When I bought the truck I was told it was "running when parked" Then a little later I was told oh "yeah, the clutch is out". Yesterday I found a small hole in the oil pan... Just keeps getting worser n worser. Bought it from a good friend (I think)!
Thanks for the help, I'll keep after it Darwin

I believe it shows your early 235 with the tall pushrod cover. http://pugetsoundvintagechevrolet.org/Programs/6%20cylinder%20engines%20with%20photos.pdfI do not know the answers to your other questions and would suggest that you will never get the best response from other members because you are burying questions about new topics under an old title about engine ID. The ignition parts question should be a separate question under a new title. The gear box question should probably be in the driveline forum under a new title. Just be aware that the moderators frown on the same questions under different titles or in multiple forums so you could edit your last response above (click on the grey "edit" button in the lower right corner of your post) or expect some leniency from them in your first posts since you are a new member. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep after it Darwin From 1941-1949, the 216 & 235 both had tall push-rod covers. All distributor and ignition/electrical parts (within the same years) were interchangeable. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 26 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 26 | Thanks Randy Guess I need to learn the ins & outs of using the forum.
