Two questions here gentlemen...
First,does anyone know the part number for the fuel filter element that goes in the glass bowl of the filter housing, the one that mounts near the carb. If someone has an AC Delco number or NAPA number or any brand that would be a big help.
Second question, I need to replace my fuel pump and I have the option of getting the standard replacement model, no filter on top, or a pump that says it has a combination fuel AND vacuum pump. My truck is a 1951 with the original 216, 6 volt and vacuum wipers.
I don't understand what the addition of the "vacuum pump" on the fuel pump is for.

The optional dual-action (vacuum booster) fuel pump supplied continuous vacuum to the wiper motor.

The fuel filter assembly you have is Durex Moraine.
I do not know if you can find a replacement filter/element for it.
I thought you can clean that type of filter/element. Read this Post
Unless the Item # 5451937 will work in the Durex Moraine.
Otherwise you can change out the Durex Moraine for one of these.

MPC group number 3.890 Fuel filter
Shows AC Delco as the original equipment.

Mine looks like #2, the whole unit I bought looks brand new, no box, by taking it apart it looks like fuel has never run through it...the only difference between mine and pic #2 is mine has a "stone like" filter...I guess its replaced nowadays by a paper element?
So is the part number NAPA FIL 3034 as Forty9 says?

It is partially my fault for not checking the posters name.
MY above post was based on #3 fuel filter assembly.

To answer your question on the #2 fuel filter assembly.
You said it has a "stone like" filter.
I thought you can clean that type of filter/element. Read this Post

Why do need to change it?
I don't think it's a good idea to replaced the "stone like" element with a paper element?
The NAPA FIL 3034 is a paper element.
As far as know you should replace the element that was used originally.

Jorb, when I posted the original question I didn't take a very close look at the whole "assembly". Now that I have, it seems that it's brand new...the whole thing, so I guess I don't need a new filter.
I did click on your link and it says you can just clean them but it doesn't say what you clean them with? Any ideas guys?

The porous stone filter element is cleaned by directing a blast of high-pressure air through it from the inside, blowing the debris the filter catches to the outside. A little fresh gasoline or lacquer thinner and a narrow paintbrush will help to brush away the displaced dirt. Don't try the same procedure with a paper filter- - - -the air will blow holes through the filter media big enough to throw a medium-sized cat through it!
