After the fire I've sanded, filled, primed and painted the dash. After two days in the warm shop I see now that I hit it with a little too much paint and the metal flake sagged a bit.

Sooo ...

I roughed up the paint job with 200 grit and hit it with more primer ... Now that I've sanded out the primer with 200 grit and then finished sanding with 400 grit and then 600 grit. My question is did I have to reprime the job or could I have lightly sanded the dash with 400 grit and then shot more paint on it?

Which is easier to sand? The primer or the paint? One might gum up more than the other. I would say primer is easier to sand.

No doubt the primer was was easier to sand. As stated I sanded the existing paint anyway. Sorry I guess I wasn't clear enough my question is, did I have to prime or could I have painted over the paint without priming the exisiting paint? Would the second coat of paint have adhered (permanently) to the exisiting shiney new paint?

Fire? Toad?

EEEeeek!?

I missed something... somewhere.

*zing* (off to the lounge to peruse... )

I had been wondering about the wording in this topic from COEjunkie :

topic: Got a canary, a (burnt) toad, need a frog?

hmn... trudging through the lounge... it's gotta be in here somewhere... or not.

Ah-ha! I found the post:

Topic: Dang Ya Gotta Hate When That Happens

No pictures are loading up though... Rust Smuggler musta deleted them from his site or something.

Sorry to read about that Rust... glad you are ok and The Toad is fixable. smile

I see great, so that means I just wasted a little primer and a little time ... no sweat good to know for the future. Dash looks a lot better the second time around. I was never please with the first run ...

Woo don't understand why the pictures don't load have a look here Toad Stuff .

I would be on the road by now if my son didn't have a Fiero ... 'nuff said on that subject. lol

Smuggler,

That dash looks very nice. I'm experimenting with colors for my 53 and wondering what you used to make it look so nice. What manufacturer and line of product if you don't mind sharing with a new-comer?

You've used the magic 3 letter word, now can you make a dream come true and say it's DCC or DBC...

Dare to dream big I always say...

What year is this code for, or is it just a "close-nuff"?

Either way, You've made my day.

Rust... WHOA!

Reading about it and seeing pictures are two different things. Yikes.

I'm glad yer ok Rust... I was noticing the dates... and I see you didn't waste much time about tearing it down and starting repairs. So that is good. Keep yer head it, I know you'll make it pretty again. smile

Maybe the Fiero caused all of this... if I recall my 'wee lad' years - didn't they have fire issues ? smile Hmnn...

Jake;

PPG and DCC is the name of the game ...

DCC3613

DMC981 - 466.4
DMC902 - 205.4
DMC934 - 59.6
DMC984 - 323.7

I took up the radio filler plate from my 47 Chev AD ... it had original paint on it that had never seen the light of day since it had been installed. They took a picture of it and this is the colour the computor spit out ... it's a little on the dark side but it is a great colour. Everyone who has seen it figures it's great as do I.

As far as the Fiero is concerned so far I've replaced the clutch, distributor both axles. What can I say the kid loves it and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That clutch was an interesting chore ... took me 8 hours just to remove the transmission. Gound the flywheel replaced the throw out bearing and disk ... that smile on his face was worth all the cursing and swearing I did during the job ... lol

One more question, when you paint the interior, do you do the whole interior the same color, or do the floor and sides get a different color(s)?
