So which Okie is right, a 50 or a 51? The vendors make the break at the model year without the early or late designation....so are there other differences than the dowelling, like the OD for example?

The front bushing for the 41-50 is 1" long, the 51-54 is 1 3/16" long.
Easy to check- I slid a bent wire in by the shaft and caught the back edge of the bushing, then marked the depth and measured it - got the 1 3/16" bushing!
This means my '50 code torque tube has the '51+ bushing, so it's a late '50 year change to watch out for.
For what it's worth, the "Ask Jim" responder advised to use the incorrect '50 replacement based on the code only , even though there was no dowel pins. The 1949 had a dowel and the 1950 did not have a dowel, but the dowel was tough to find.
I think I remember the rear bushing being longer but I dont remember the length. And no dowels. This is a press fit bushing, only the slip fit must be dowelled. My guess is you could use either but I'd have to drill a hole for the dowel. Buyer beware of the different editions of the parts manual! | | |
