So i was looking for some parts for my 47 and answered an ad for some misc stuff. I was ready to plunk down $100 bucks for what I needed, when i asked my usual question "Got anything else for sale?" He opened the garage and I just about soiled myself.
Before me was a 48 3100 3 window cab/chassis/driveline with the front clip/bed removed and a 48 5 window cab on a shop dolley. Scattered about were various OEM parts and 2 new bed sides in bare metal. There were plenty of other parts I need to finish my current 47 3600 and so much more.
This guy was cool and had just lost interest in the truck. A few more questions lead to the discovery of a used mustang II front end, a gm 10 bolt rearend and a Heidts (sp) new cross member. All stored inside for what he said was close to 20 years. Very Minimal rust in the 5 window cab, 2 complete front clips, and 4 rear fenders! He had everything to get going less the V8 and the driveshaft.
Now to my question to the many fine bolters in this forum....What would you pay for the lot of it?????

Well hot dog for you!!!! This will be one awesome Gallery story (hint, hint). If you do get the truck, find out a little of the history from him, too. Then give me a shout and we'll do the story!

I know nothing of the value ... leave that to these guys.

Ask the guy what he wants for everything. If he turns it around on you and asks you what you want to give him, tell him, "Well I can't very well buy it AND sell it for you." "Give me a price."

Sounds like a great deal can be struck there. I would bring cash, make sure his wife is there with you guys (might have to check with the her anyways but I'm sure she wants it gone and wants a new pair of shoes wink ) Look them in the eyes,slight smile,and the offering cash in your left hand holding up mid body so everyone can see it,saying I'll give you said amount with a slight up and down nod. NOW PAUSE DON'T SAY ANOTHER WORD watch there eyes get slightly bigger they will turn and look at each other,she nods you'll get the best handshake you ever had. Next step go get your trailer and some buddy's and load it all on,in,and/or however you wish and enjoy.

Been sitting 20 years cash in hand can be a powerful thing
As far as "how much" I'd go 2500 and see where it goes

Make sure to get the title details before you go back,if not a complete title, go to the DMV and find out exactly what you need, notarized Bill of Sale for minimum.

All great advice! From pleasing the Mrs to titles to how to present a fair offer.....Excellent. Any more thoughts on value? I forgot to mention a new plain tailgate and new front bed panel. So that makes for a mostly new bed minus the bed floor and rear fenders (I saw 4 oem rears I think).

BTW- I feel pretty lucky to have stumbled upon this. I really hope I can put this together and share some cool pictures of stuff I think we all enjoy. Thanks again.

Only other piece of advice that I would offer is, no matter what
you decide to do, don't wait to long.
Recall the old idiom, He who hesitates is lost.

I was lucky enough to make a deal with the seller and made a cash deposit. We agreed to wait until after the holiday to move the trucks across town. That way we could we could spend time with family. You might note here I said trucks.....yup 2 titles. Now I just need to make room in the garage and find another bare frame to build my first shortbed 5 window hot rod. I wonder if I'll end up keeping all this old iron? photobucket88

Marko;

Congratulations on the big score. With all the questions about a fair price, is it too tacky to ask how much you gave for all that?

Jon;

I'm going to have to rehearse that cash offer script in the mirror tonight. Priceless!!

Thanks

Larry- I'll fill you in when I get the trucks home. So far I could not be happier, the owner has been great to work with. I worked hard all weekend to make room for em.

Tonight the seller surprised me with a trailer and truck bed of parts. Delivered to the house even! So far he has brought over the 5 window cab, the 2 front clips with radiators, 2 sets of running boards (long and short for 3100), the heidts crossmember and Mustang front end with a whole slew of new parts to rebuild it and some of the brand new bed panels. We filled up one garage bay and a good chunk of my side yard.......it looks like I'm starting a wrecking yard here. I have a ton of work to do now before we can even think about bringing over the rolling chassis and cab (which he is also delivering). Incredible is all I can say.......Christmas in July! Pictures to follow when I find the time.
