For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 186 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 186 | Hey guys
does anyone make the tie rod ends for these big old trucks or do I need to source an NOS set?
I had my truck out for a first run and although I didn't feel any slop in the steering, I only was doing maybe 25mph...I put it back up on jacks after to do a once around make sure everything was still nice and tight. That's when I noticed/remembered the play in the tie rod ends. How much should there be???
I believe the same tie rods were used from 34-46, but I am not sure, nor am I sure of the correct part number
Any help or insight would be appreciated

If they were used from 32-59.. were they not necessarily on the 1.5 ton trucks? thus far I haven't had any luck finding them.. but what confuses me is I stumbled across this pair.. But says they are for 41-46 Chevy 1.5 ton.. which is within the range above? PN 601395 and 601396 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Steering-...15174305?hash=item2c9d2786a1&vxp=mtras always any insight and help is appreciated.. Is that what you have or do you have the ball on the steering arms and the sockets on the rod like in this link? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-GM-...30570677?hash=item2353d8c5b5&vxp=mtrMike B

It seems like I made a mistake with the numbers I gave you earlier...the old books are confusing sometimes. Anyway your Model R truck should have the one piece ends and they are part numbers; Right = 601396 (4-5/32 long, 13/16-18 RH Thread). Left = 601395 (4-5/32 long, 13/16-18 LH Thread). This info was taken from my 1936 Chevrolet Parts Book dated 12-1-1935 and confirned with my 1951 Chevrolet parts Book (Group Number 6.233). Sorry for the confusion, I'll fix the post above so someone else doesn't get confused. Mike B | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 186 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 186 | Hey mike ! No worries on the confusion, I really appreciate your help, so it seems that the tie rod ends I found are the correct part number! Good news, thanks again for your help! | | |
