I pulled the front grill off today and it is in pretty bad shape. Rust !! Anyway the grill is the one that has to two round ball like things with Chevrolet in the middle. Could I put a grill in there that you would find on a 3100 ? | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | Anonymous Unregistered | Round Ball Things? 1956? That is a new one on me. Can you post a link that shows what you are talking about? To my knowledge, limit though it may be, the 55 and 56 shared an egg crate style grill. Is your grill like the one in this link?http://www.truckandcarshop.com/truckshopsale.htm | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 55 Member | Member Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 55 | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 18 Member | Member Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 18 | No, it's not a GMC. If you go tot he gallery and look in the 55-57 era, look at Mike Boteler's 8400 wrecker. Thats the grill I have. You'll see the two "round balls" there. I was wondering if I could put a regular grille on instead of my exisitng one. It's pretty rusted. | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | the "regular grill" won't fit the bigger trucks, which have the grill you describe on yours, which is on 1.5T and up - good luck finding one!! Theres a lot of rust on it. I really don't want to work it up with filler and have that rust keep creeping in. Has anybody tried to install a 3100 grill on a 1.5 --2 ton truck. I wonder if I could fabricte brakets ??
Any suggestions ? | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 31 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2001 Posts: 31 | Mike\'s They're out there. I've seen some beautiful examples on Ebay go for next to nothing. Setup an Ebay search that notifies you when a listing shows that meets your criteria. There is a lifeless '56 4400 just a 1/2 mile from me. I will see if the grille is still attached.
