While I still haven't been working on my truck... I have finally proven I can yet again find time and accomplish something in the shop. A feat that had been easy several years ago and more recently I doubted could ever be done again.

Feels good to wrap up even a small project, gives me hope that the truck might be fun again, and encouragement that I can get something done.

I knew Blue Bell having to close shop for a few days would spur entrepreneurial spirit.

First flavor was blask raspberry, picked them on the roadside weekend before last.

Next weekend is spicy chocolate and then peach.

I liked the ice cream from the first version. I suspect the upgrade will make as good an ice cream. Let's gas that thing up and go.

Bring it to KC in Sept. And I'll get the Blackberrys in July for a really good midwest cream. They are red now and should be ready in about two weeks.
How much will you need?
One, two or three gallons?
Any more than three and I'll have to put Vicky to picking some.

Beautiful work, increased efficiency due to machining upgrades will yield longevity to the ice cream maker and faster ice cream product. Great pictures.

That's a long haul to KC, we'll cross that bridge when it gets here, unfortunately looking like a busy time of year already.
We haven't made blackberry yet, but It'd probably take 6 quarts of berries for a 5 gallon batch.

Don, do you know of a gear shop with a bevel gear shaper that might could trim these gears to a real gear tooth profile? I think there might be enough material on them yet, and I could blank out a new pinion and start over on that if needed.

Cosmo, I'm sure it'll last a good long time now but probably churns in the same time as it would have as received. Sorry we missed you last week.

Two comments.
1. I got to sample (multiple dishes just to make sure) the blackberry. It was just amazingly good.

If the blackberry's come in good this year, I'll freeze 2 gallons to have on hand for this fall or next spring at the homecoming.
As for a gear shop, I can only think of two right now and both are in Missouri.

Checked yesterday and the blackberry's are starting to turn black. Hope the weather stays cool to pick.

Never had blackberry ice cream lots of boysenberry ice cream long way to go for ice cream but I bet it would be worth the trip homecoming sounding better all the time

The ice cream maker did well over the weekend. Made two batches and served 150-200 family members and still had a little left over.

I did have to cool off the "radiator" milk can in between batches.

Time to add surface area, radiator fins, to the milk can? What flavor?

For one batch at a time it's not a problem.
Already have a copper tube coil in the tank and can run water through it from a garden hose to bring the temp down. I'll keep an eye out for a neat looking old bronze oil/water cooler from an old marine engine, that might be good to add to the system, get more heat transferred faster.

Ice cream, my foot -- he's got you all duped into thinking it's an ice cream maker, and he's pretty crafty to ensure it actually makes some, too. But an ice cream maker it most assuredly is not. Think about it ... tubes ... fins ... heat ... cooling ... jugs ... You really think 300 people are gonna line up for ice cream from a diesel exhuast belching contraption like that?? Heck no ...

the dang thing is a *still* disguised as an ice cream maker!

Probably making some kind of hooch distilled from all those pumpkins and water melons tossed by the "trebuchet" Yeah, right ...

Hand crafted ice cream made in a hand crafted ice cream maker riding on a hand crafted trailer. Yummmmmmmmm!
I did not count how many stove bolts are on that machine, i assume there must be at least one!

Well to further John's suspicions I've recently purchased 3 kegs (3 gallon each) to add to the system. The intent is to have running water available for washing up even without a garden hose in reach.

Don, to prep berries for later adding to the ice cream mix first rinse them. Next use a food processor to puree. Then strain out the seeds with a fabric paint straining bag (Lowe's) or usually much easier with a food mill if holes are not too large to pass seeds. Finally add enough sugar to taste sweet or just a tad too sweet and freeze.

Update on blackberry's.
Wife and I have picked 2-1/2 gallons that are cleaned and being frozen whole now.
Out of that, I get one gallon and will have to pick the rest to have enough for the ice cream.
They are still a lot out there, that are still red and will be turning this week.
Really good crop for them this year.
Also found out a welding jacket, double layer Carhart carpender pants and a welding glove on my left hand, helps a lot.
Vicki picked two to my every one.
She is a pro picker.

Got another 1/2 gallon today.
Man, it was hot in the briers.
Vicki showed me where her Honey Hole was (keep it clean boys) and there is at least an acre of berry's, along a power line.
Going back out early tomorrow and then I'm done picking.
Maybe lakeside and BBQ Wednesday.

It's pricy, but the scenery is really good for both Vicki and I.
It gets so crowded on the weekends that we rent out our dock for boat parking. Headed there today after I get some chores done.
Now, back on topic.
I'm up to 1-1/2 gallons of whole blackberrys and my back has been giving me a fit this week.
Leaving for the lake soon to swim and BBQ some brats. Hope to get back out tomorrow morning and pick some more berry's.

Went to town today to get some things for our big BBQ at the lake tomorrow. 30 plus people.
As I was walking into the grocery store a car stops in front of me. (true story it just happened)
He asked if I want to buy some Blackberry's.
I said how much?
He said ten bucks a gallon and I said pull over and lets look at them.
Real nice gallon bag of cleaned fresh picked berry's.
I could not get that ten bucks out fast enough.
We now have over two gallons for icecream next spring at the home coming, if I can keep the wife away from them.

I'm back up to ten anvils thanks to my wife the enabler.
Starting to haul one in the back of my truck and maybe get a buyer.
Vicki's Aunt makes some really good jam and we have plenty of it.
I also found out my couson's husband make's his own shine.
I hope to get some more this fall and bring it to the Homecoming.
That's if it's not a really cold winter.
