For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2015 Posts: 236 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2015 Posts: 236 | I just ordered one of these. $75. on the ebay http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...otive-electrical/1364096_1980863169.htmlLooking forward to seeing it work on the old engine. I like the feature of it having USB to my laptop for recording ignition values and displaying graphs. While it will connect up to both distributor it has spark wire clamp for monitoring plug conditions. But my real excitement will be setting it up to be able to add to the three distributor testers I have for hopefully recording advance curves both mechanical and vacuum and verifying smooth operation after rebuild/refresh. With this the old 1940's ALLEN distributor tester needing restored will have some serious useful ability to it. Should be good for truck and for shop.

Other that that.. as a stand alone tool it looks like the $40 units all over ebay. | | | | | Joined: May 2015 Posts: 236 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2015 Posts: 236 | I have no issues with install but it is always on my clunker laptop first, which is what I use to keep service manuals and work data for use in the shop. I follow IT data scans on any software that is loaded on my system trusted source or not. But then I do not use Google or Chrome simply do to data tracking. But even the most trusted company US, Korea, or elsewhere has had issues at one time or other. Also the data output is there with or with out installing there provided software, so if you have any programing savvy you can record the data with out installing their provided stuff.
Aside from that yes you can get the same meter to some extent with out the Opto-isolated USB port from HF or EBAY. And if you find no use in your case of the data logging and visual display then buy the cheaper unit. But after testing this meter its data logging for every meter function (temp, spark, dwell, volts, amps, etc.) is showing to be handy on observing condition changes.
I am very happy with its use.
