I would like to drop in a 454 I have and keep the original 4 speed for now, also I don't want to change the front suspension or modify the firewall. Has anyone done this or could tell me if this is all possible, and if so, what type motor mount brackets would I need to use? I would appreciate anyone's input or experience on this. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | What motor was in it??????. Need V8 perches from a donor or aftermarket to fit 454. The 454 has side motor mounts. These will be mounted to frame. You can use the tubular adjustable aftermarket type also. Devise a tranny mount or use existing. If you have passenger side hydraulic clutch, be sure bell housing will fit 454. You have torsion bar front correct? You must mock it all up with mounts attached and locate motor while inspecting for interferences to firewall, radiator, exhaust, steering, etc. Overall not a hard install with a 454 correct bell housing/flywheel/clutch. you may decide to buy an aftermarket front motor mount to use original front crossmember setup if it had that. Steering and exhaust clearance might be an issue. Be sure to use enough radiator- - - -even a stock big block needs a lot of cooling, and a hot-rodded one really develops a lot of heat. The aftermarket motor mount crossmember might have some clearance issues with the torsion bars, so do some research there before selecting a supplier. Jerry

I bought a bell housing for v8 with hydraulic clutch from a member here a while back, and the original saddle type engine mount for small block. I don't think it will work on the bb, but not sure. I do have the torsion bars up front and it rides great, drove it all the way from Colorado to Pa. when I bought it. I just don't want to chop it all up. Just want to put the v8 in with as little butchering as possible and thanks for all the replies. | | |
