I'm starting to put my 57 back together. I would like to use stainless steal fasterens. Is there anything I need to do to them in order to paint them?

One thing I can say about stainless bolts is that they can work loose real easy as the hardness of the stainless does not allow the metals to grip each other as plain steel would.
You would need to either use some good loc-tite when assembling the stainless nuts and bolts or use some type of self-locking nuts with the stainless bolts.
As for painting them,,,, why not polish them

Paint does stick to well-preped plated steel fasteners better. I use Nylok nuts with stainless scews and bolts.

On the SS hardware I used that were painted, like bumper bolts, I had the advantage of a bead blaster at work. Just lightly hit them to rough up the surface and so far so good. When assembling I used flat and lock washers with the nylock nuts also in SS. I just blasted the heads or whatever would be taking paint and left the rest as is.

Loctite or Vibratite will also prevent galling.

Be careful about the bolts you buy. I learned the hard way. Found either improper or no heat treat on the bolts I bought through American Clasics. The bolts at the hardware store aren't any better. I would recommend getting bolts from either Totally Stainless or GMC Pauls . I know they both sell quality bolts.
