Well, due to my daily driver being t-boned and totaled, while waiting on insurance company to pay me, I drug out my 58 apache 1/2 ton and put on 4 jackstands and removed all wheels. It has sat for decades (by previous owner) and me for couple. I need to do ALL brakes (surely even lines and master and wheel cylinders) and likely the front end needs rebuilding.
BEFORE I begin, from those experienced on these (which I'm not) what are the pitfalls? I have done drums before and rebuilt some kingpin front ends and stuff, but I wanted to avoid getting caught with obsolete stuff and by the time I get done someone posting "oh, you could have went to modern this that and the other for half the price).
I'm sure I will have to replace every hardline, every cylinder and master and every lining. Your thoughts and suggestions? As I have no real nice wheels or tires now, if I'm better off to go 5 lug on front and have axles drilled, I can, it's an open canvas now.
I do not mind stock manual drums. I'm a very defensive driver (and didn't even see the young lady who t-boned into my driver door, pinning my leg).

Whichever way you go you are correct in assuming every thing needs to be replaced. Do it once, do it right.

I prefer the power front disc conversion I have on my '54. I have all drum on my '56 with non-powered dual MC. It stops fine, just not as quick as the '54.

I have a 58 that I redid all the drum brakes on. I don't recall any problems finding correct parts.
