So I had to figure out a way to do engine work anyway. Years ago I purchased this winch from Harbor Freight. Its an 880 pound capacity. http://www.harborfreight.com/880-lb-electric-hoist-with-remote-control-60347-9120.htmlAnyway, I have it very securely fastened to one of the main beams on my building so I am not in the least worried about it falling. I use this after getting a few guys to move the engine block to the floor (from the Explorer) then I can take it from there. Once the block is on the engine stand (piece of cake with this winch) I do the lower end of the engine, then before I put on the Head, I take it off the engine stand, and put it on the test stand with the same winch. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 467 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 467 | When I built the rotisserie for the 240Z I incorporated a small derrick in each one to use this winch to hoist the end of the body in the air to attach to the stands. Worked well.
I have used this winch for years to hoist parts up to the second floor of my garage. I built a small deck with swing out gates in front of the sliding patio doors and added a pretty beefy derrick that uses this winch. Very happy with it and the remote control is excellent.
I'm in the process of building a dock lifting system at the cottage that will use this winch as well to aid in the launching of them. | | |
